Apple Research Field Day July 16
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Codling moth mating disruption and production of Red Delicious apples without use of broad spectrum insecticides are two topics that should interest growers at a Washington State University research field day scheduled July 16 near Wapato.
Scientists from the WSU Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center at Wenatchee also will display work on biological control of leafrollers, apple rootstocks, powdery mildew in fruit crops and how to avoid internal problems with Braeburn and Fuji apples.
Growers should meet at the new USDA Entomology Lab south of Yakima at 1 p.m. To get there from Interstate Highway 82, take Exit 44. Drive east to Yakima Valley Highway. Turn right and travel south 1.3 miles. Then turn left onto Konnowac Pass Road and drive a third of a mile to the USDA lab at 5230 Konnowac Pass Rd.
