WSU Student Elected President of Student Group

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Dustin DeVries, a Washington State University senior in agribusiness from Burlington, was elected president of the student section of the American Agricultural Economics Association at the AAEA's annual meeting in San Antonio last week.

Holly Nelson, a May graduate from Moscow, Idaho, took first in the student paper competition with an economic analysis of alternatives to methyl bromide in post-harvest fumigation of apples and cherries.

A team of three May graduates finished third out of 33 teams participating in the AAEA academic bowl. The three, who will all start graduate studies in agricultural economics at WSU this fall, are Adam Jessup, Wilbur; Toni Aegerter, Cathlamet; and Mathew Benson, Moses Lake.

Academic bowls test knowledge of agricultural economics and agribusiness.

"Our students' accomplishments are a direct reflection of the quality of our program," said Ray Folwell, professor of agricultural economics.
