Chemical Ecologists Give International Honor to WSU's Ryan
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University's Clarence (Bud) Ryan has become the first American honored with the International Society of Chemical Ecology's Silverstein-Simeone Award.
Ryan, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, received the award July 16 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The award was "in recognition of current innovative research" being conducted by Ryan, a fellow in the WSU Institute of Biological Chemistry.
As recipient of the award, Ryan delivered an invited paper summarizing his research with emphasis on major advancements and new ideas that it has engendered. The paper was on "Polypeptide Signaling for Plant Defense Genes."
Ryan was the third recipient of the award. Previous recipients of the award are the Netherlands' Louise Vet and Germany's Wilhelm Boland.
The International Society of Chemical Ecology has about 600 members.
