Conference on Aging and Health Sept. 26
PULLMAN, Wash. -- A one-day conference for hospital workers, hospice care givers and other professionals who work with the aging is scheduled Sept. 26 at the Best Western University Inn at Moscow, Idaho.
The Conference on Aging and Health will describe the development of training that meets new state mandates for care givers in addition to other topics, according to Margaret Ray, WSU Cooperative Extension human development specialist.
Because state care giving requirements differ, separate sessions are scheduled for Idaho and Washington participants.
Sessions include:
--Fundamentals of Care Giving
--Managed Care for the Elderly, Trends, Facts and the Future
--Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid
--Housing Adaptations for Independent Living
--Mobilizing Community Resources: How to Collaborate
The conference will begin and end with presentations of "Dusk," a play by Bryan Harnetiaux. The play dramatizes what happens to a 75-year-old woman after she has a stroke.
Ray said all sessions will be repeated during the day so that participants will not miss anything. The conference offers both nursing and social work continuing credits.
Registration is $35 for the full day and $25 for half the day. People interested in attending the Conference on Ethics and Spirituality at the same site the previous day can register for both conferences for $60. Contact Ann Brelsford at (509) 335-2921 to register.
The Conference on Aging and Health is sponsored by WSU and the University of Idaho Cooperative Extension. The Conference on Ethics and Spirituality is being sponsored by the Idaho Hospice Association.
