Donaldson Honored at Lind Field Day

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Edwin, the newest soft white, winter club wheat released by Washington State University's winter wheat breeding and genetics program, bears the name of WSU wheat breeder Edwin Donaldson, who will retire July 10 after 28 years on the faculty.

"This is in true appreciation of Ed's work," said Steve Jones, WSU winter wheat breeder. "Ed really put the growers above his career and the university. As a public breeder, Ed was dedicated to the health of the wheat crop in this state and the economic health of the wheat grower."

Donaldson also received a plaque from the Lincoln-Adams Crop Improvement Association.

Donaldson joined the faculty in 1970. He was research agronomist at the WSU Lind Dryland Research Station from 1972 to 1995 when he transferred to Pullman.

He was honored Thursday at the 82nd annual field day of the research facility. More than 150 attended.
