Media Alert--Direct Seed Cropping Systems Conference

WHAT: 2nd NW Direct Seed Cropping Systems Conference and Trade Show

WHO: 37 speakers, including researchers and industry representatives and growers from Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Northern Great Plains and Pacific Northwest. 1,200-1,500 farmers and others associated with agriculture are expected to attend.

WHEN: Jan. 5-7, 1999

WHERE: International Ag Trade Center/Spokane Convention Center and Doubletree Hotel City Center, Spokane.

WHY: Promote direct seeding of crops to conserve the soil and help PNW farmers more competitive.

BACKGROUND: About five percent of Pacific Northwest cropland is under no-till, direct seed systems. This compares to the U.S. average of 16 percent, Brazil's 15 percent, Canada's 18 percent, Argentina's 28 percent and western Australia's 30 percent.

MEDIA ARRANGEMENTS: Media are requested to register, but the fee will be waived for working journalists. Media may register for lunches at $15 each. Proceedings will be provided free to journalists.
