"The Farmer's Plight" on KSPS-TV June 17
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Economic, environmental and techonological challenges faced by farmers in the Inland Northwest will be the subject of an hour-long public television show seen throughout Eastern Washington on Thursday, June 17.
KSPS-TV (PBS) in Spokane will present a special program "The Farmer's Plight" at 7 p.m./8 p.m MDT. The show will be aired simultaneously on KWSU-TV in Pullman and KTNW-TV in the Tri-Cities.
Veteran journalist Hugh Imhof will host this live, one-hour program that will examine the economic issues and government financial programs affecting farm country today. Imhof will be joined by a panel of experts on such topics as international trade, economic, technology and farmers themselves. A studio audience and television viewers will be able to ask questions and discuss their concerns with the panel.
Panelists will include:
-- Jon Newkirk, agricultural economist and chair of the Washington State University Adams County Cooperative Extension
-- Desmond O'Rourke, director of WSU's International Marketing Program for Agricultural Commodities and Trade
-- Alex McGregor, operator of McGregor Farm Supply and immediate past president of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers
-- Steve Koehler, Farm Credit Services, Spokane
-- Hal Johnson, farmer, Davenport.
The show is being underwritten by the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, The Bank of Fairfield, Cenex Harvest States Retail Dealers and the College of Agriculture and Home Economics at Washington State University.
