New Academic Department Heads Announced at WSU
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Two new department chairs have been appointed in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics at Washington State University.
Carol Salusso assumed duties as chair of the apparel, merchandising and interior design department on June 16. She has been a member of the WSU faculty since 1994. Salusso succeeded Joye Dillman, who had served as interim chair since last July.
Before coming to WSU, Salusso taught at Montana State University for eight years and at Iowa State for five. She holds a B.S. in home economics from Montana State, and a master's and doctorate in textiles and clothing from the University of Minnesota.
The apparel, merchandising and interior design department prepares students for careers in the fields of apparel and textiles product development and merchandising and interior design. The department has faculty in Pullman and Spokane. Interior design students complete the fourth year of study at the WSU Spokane Interdisciplinary Design Institute.
Dennis Gross will become chair of the plant pathology department on July 1. He has been a member of the department's faculty since 1979. Gross holds a bachelor's of science degree in botany from Iowa State University and a doctorate in plant pathology from the University of California, Davis. He will succeed Jack Rogers, who has served as department chair for 13 years.
The department offers graduate programs in the field of plant diseases and has faculty at five locations across the state.
The appointments were announced by Vicki McCracken, interim associate dean and director of academic programs for the college.
