Home and Garden Pesticides Issues Conference Oct. 19

TACOMA, Wash. A one-day conference on home and garden pesticide issues is scheduled Oct. 19 at Pacific Lutheran University.

"We need to mitigate the risk of pesticide used by homeowners to themselves, their families, their neighbors, their pets and the environment," said Carol Ramsay, WSU Cooperative Extension pesticide educator. "The best way is through education."

The conference, sponsored by Washington State University, is designed for educators, regulators, public works professionals and others who work with people who use pesticides in their homes, yards and gardens. However, the public is invited.

Speakers will address human health issues associated with home and garden pesticides, pesticide misuse, water quality issues, pesticide regulations, federal pesticide disposal guidance and a variety of other topics.

Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. The conference will begin at 7:50 a.m and adjourns at 4 p.m. The event will be held in the Chris Knutzen Hall at University Center.

Registration is $70 if postmarked Oct. 1 or earlier; $100 afterwards.
