WSU Slates Water Quality Roundtables

PULLMAN, Wash. -- A sustainable future for fish, water and people is the goal of three regional watershed roundtables sponsored by Washington State University.

Donald Nelson, WSU Cooperative Extension specialist, said WSU is trying to help divergent interests arrive at a common vision of the future and foster creative solutions to old conflicts.

The roundtables should be of interest to watershed councils, homeowner associations, Tribes, state and local governments, environmental groups, agriculture and forest groups, businesses and others.

Nelson said people who attend the roundtable meetings will build understanding, share successes and learn consensus skills that will help them influence society's decisions on watershed issues.

WSU's Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources is conducting the meetings, which will be held Sept. 6-7 in Portland, Ore., the Spokane regional meeting will be held in Post Falls, Idaho, Sept. 13-14. The Idaho meeting will be Oct. 3-4 in Boise. They are free. Attendance is restricted to 150 people per session. Preregistration is required.

Documents reporting results of the meetings will be posted on the CSANR Web site about a month after the meetings, Nelson said.
