USDA Honors WSU Administrator
PULLMAN, Wash. -- A Washington State University administrator was honored Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for work on a nationwide team.
Linda Kirk Fox, associate dean and associate director of WSU Cooperative Extension, and members of the "Money2000" and "Investing for Your Future" teams received the USDA Secretary's Honor Award in ceremonies in Washington, D.C.
The Honor Award is the most significant award the Department of Agriculture makes to acknowledge outstanding contributions to agriculture, to the consumers of agricultural products and to the ability of the department to serve America. The teams were honored in the category of Enhancing the Capacity of All Rural Residents, Communities and Businesses to Prosper.
Extension educators from eight universities plus team members from the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service and the Securities Exchange Commission, created a series of money management educational packages to promote reduction of personal debt, increase personal savings and investment of those savings.
"Money2000," which has become "America Saves," and "Investing for your Future" are offered nationally through the national Extension initiative "Financial Security in Later Life."
Fox created training materials for "Investing for your Future" while on the University of Idaho faculty. She came to WSU in February.
