Nethercutt to Cut Ribbon for WSU Center

SPOKANE -- Congressman George R. Nethercutt Jr. will cut the ribbon Monday (April 21) for the Spokane office of Washington State University's Center to Bridge the Digital Divide.

The public is invited to attend, at 120 N. Stevens, Suite 200. The ribbon cutting will be at 4 p.m. A reception will follow until 6 p.m.

The center helps communities bridge social, economic, and cultural divides by providing digital technology and educational innovations.

Bill Gillis, director, said five professionals will be housed in the Spokane office, with space provided by AVISTA at no cost to WSU through November. 180 Communications, a Spokane-based telecommunications company is providing the center with a communication link to WSU's Riverpoint Campus in Spokane.

"Contributions of these two companies significantly reduce start-up costs for our new Spokane office," Gillis said. "We hope to help the Spokane community build on its digital infrastructure to support new jobs and opportunities."

The center relies almost exclusively on grants, contracts and gifts to support its activities. "Presently our sponsor list includes a diverse group of approximately 25 corporate, foundation and governmental sponsors," Gillis said.

More information about the center is available on the World Wide Web at cbdd.wsu.edu.
