MEDIA ADVISORY: Funding Support Considered for WSU NWREC Expansion
MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- Port of Skagit County commissioners will consider funding support for the expansion of Washington State University's Northwestern Washington Research and Extension Center with a presentation at their April 13 meeting. The session will be held at 2 p.m. at the port office.
Representatives from the NWREC fundraising group, the Northwest Agricultural Research Foundation (NARF), and Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland will review successful joint projects with NWREC. Pete Jacoby, associate dean of the WSU College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, also will make remarks.
The NWREC revamp includes construction of modern, efficient work spaces for the five county agricultural and horticultural research and extension services currently housed in older, over-crowded facilities. Approximately $1.5 million of the total project cost will come from private donations. A committee composed of local citizens and WSU representatives is spearheading the fundraising effort.
