Jacoby Named Fellow of Food Systems Leadership Institute

PULLMAN, Wash. – Pete W. Jacoby Jr., associate dean for outreach in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) and Agriculture Program Director for Washington State University Extension, is one of 23 university faculty and administrators, and executives from private industry selected as Food Systems Leadership Institute Fellows.
FSLI Fellows are beginning an intensive two-year leadership training program for experienced leaders in the food system.
“The food system includes a wide array of stakeholders, from producers to consumers,” said Ken Swartzel, FSLI program director. “Taking a systems approach acknowledges the need to broaden our thinking on the relationships of food and food production to health and nutrition, environmental quality, natural resources, rural communities, globalization, and a host of emerging issues surround these and other topics.”
The training program focuses on personal leadership skills, leadership for organizational change and broadening food system perspectives.
The FSLI, based at North Carolina State University, was formed through the partnership of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges and the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.
Jacoby came to WSU in 1997 to become associate dean for administration and planning in CAHNRS. He was named to his current position on Jan. 1, 2007.
