WSU Extension Video Crew Earns National Award for Webcast
PULLMAN, Wash. – The Video/Multimedia Unit for Washington State University Extension has won a national award for a Webcast focused on on-line learning.
Scott Fedale, director of WSU Extension Communications and Educational Support, and the ECES video/multi-media unit have been selected to receive the American Distance Education Consortium’s “Barrier Buster” award at the All-ADEC annual meeting in Minneapolis April 22. The award is for the Feb. 27 national Webcast “The Strategic Case for Online Learning: Access, Engagement and Success.” Fedale hosted and co-produced the program.
“The ECES video crew stretched themselves and the technological envelope to produce this national piece,” said Linda Kirk Fox, associate vice president and dean of WSU Extension. “This award recognizes that innovation.”
The program featured live interviews and statements from university presidents and distance education leaders located in three videoconferencing locations across the United States, including WSU President Elson S. Floyd, as well as a number of pre-produced video case studies. One of those case studies focused on the WSU Distance Degree Student Government.
The program was sponsored by WSU Extension, ADEC, the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
The “Barrier Buster Award” is named for the late Bill Murphy, a leader in distance education programming focused on community development and action.
