Workshop on Westside Tree Fruit and Wine Grape Production
EVERETT, Wash. – Washington State University wine grape and tree fruit expert Gary Moulton and vintner/grower Brent Charnley of Lopez Island Vineyards will present a workshop on growing tree fruit and wine grapes suitable for production in Western Washington’s challenging climate.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 10 am until 2:30 p.m. at Ed’s Apples, 13420 339th Ave SE in Sultan.
The workshop will feature pruning demonstrations, a discussion of the latest varieties suitable for the region, care and feeding, planting and trellising options, irrigation, organic methods, and more.
Gary Moulton has been with the WSU Northwestern Washington Research and Extension Center since 1980, where he has developed and maintained extensive west side trial plantings of tree fruit and wine grape varieties.
Brent Charnley has been raising wine grapes organically on Lopez Island since 1986. Growing unique varieties suited to west side climate, Lopez Island Winery vintages have garnered numerous awards for quality and outstanding flavor.
