WSU to Honor 3 Alumnae April 16
PULMAN, Wash. – Washington State University’s College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences will honor alumnae from College Park, Penn.; Genesee, Idaho; and Pullman at a public ceremony scheduled at 3:30 p.m., April 16, at the Lewis Alumni Centre as part of the college’s observation of Women’s History Month.

Jill Findeis, College Park, Penn., will be honored with the 2008 CAHNRS Women’s History Recognition Award for Professional and Academic Leadership. Findeis is a Distinguished University Professor at Penn State University where she has received international distinction for her research in the field of economic development. Her research seeks to understand the impacts of economic, social and economic change on human well-being. She received a doctorate in agricultural economics at WSU in 1982.

Jacie Jensen, Genesee, Idaho, will be recognized with the CAHNRS Women’s History Recognition Award for Community Leadership and Public Services. Jensen, who received a master’s of arts degree in child and family studies in 1983, has been a vital resource to her community, county and state for 25 years. Her early adoption of desktop computing as a resource for family and farm financial planning has changed lives and her work as a conservationist has helped preserve native plants of the Palouse.

Sarah A. Lewis, Pullman, received the 2008 CAHNRS Women’s History Recognition Rising Start Award. Lewis, who received a bachelor’s of science degree in biological systems engineering in 1999 and a master’s of science degree in the same department in 2003, works for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service as a civil engineer. In the short time since graduation, she has risen to positions of leadership and assembled an impressive record of peer-reviewed work in addition to serving as an outstanding role model for women.
A resolution passed by Congress in 1987 designated March as National Women’s History Month. The College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences has held a special recognition reception in April to honor outstanding alumnae since 1999.
