The latest USDA Agricultural Research Magazine reports on efforts of ARS and WSU scientists Juming Tang and Barry Swanson to patent the technology for producing protein-rich snacks from a variety of legumes.

Thursday’s Stockton Record (California) followed up on the ARS legume snack story, interviewing Juming Tang for its own story focusing on how the new product could benefit area dry bean growers.

Friday’s Yakima Herald-Republic included coverage of Mercy Olmstead’s presentation to the Washington Grape Society on how climate change may affect grape production.

Wednesday’s South Whidbey Record reported on the graduation of the Beach Watchers class of 2007 that included former WSU dean of pharmacy Mohamoud Abdel-Monem.

Thurston County Extension’s Cliff Moore is quoted in a Wednesday Daily Olympian story on the fifth annual Latino Youth Summit in Centralia.

Barry Swanson is among the sources quoted in an article on the Korea Herald’s U.S. Web site Mysinchew.com on persimmons and their health benefits.

Seedquest.com published our news release announcing that Steve Lyon received the O.A. Vogel Crop Improvement Award.

In this week’s Capital Press:  A guest editorial on the soundness of the land grant concept in which Elson Floyd is quoted; a story on the Kittitas Conservation District receiving the Dept. of Ecology’s Environmental Excellence Award cites the annual Small-Acreage Landowner Programs done with WSU Extension as one of the district’s achievements; and a brief item about the hiring of James Olmstead as tree fruit horticulturist in Yakima.
